Product Description
Cloned from one of the United State's oldest living ginkgo specimens planted in 1876 at Fairmount Park in Philadelphia. Selected for its columnar, narrowly pyramidal crown. Mature specimens range from 30-50 ft. in height by only 8-12 ft. in width. After all these years, the billowy parent plant is 70 ft. tall but only 15-18 ft. wide. Ginkgo are slow growing living fossils tolerant of clay soils, salty soils, drought and urban settings where pollution can be problematic. Ginkgo are admired for their unique fan-shaped foliage, which has a gristly texture and furrowed veins. Fall color is brilliant gold but can be short lived if hard frosts occur quickly. 'Fairmount' is a male selection free of flowers, so there's no stench and no fruit.
