| Description | This very hardy and adaptable species is native to China. With an evenly rounded head and dense branching structure, the Shantung Maple is perfect for any small yard or great as an accent tree for larger yards. The foliage emerges a gorgeous reddish-purple in the spring, turns dark green in summer and finishes the season a bright yellow. Greenish-yellow flowers in the spring are followed by purplish samaras in summer. When young, the bark may have a purplish hue maturing to gray-brown. Tolerates alkaline soils, heat and drought and is very resistant to pests and disease. VERY WATER THRIFTY! Hardy to -30°F Maximum Elevation: 6,000 ft. |
